Robby Robson, Ph.D.

Robby Robson, Ph.D. is an internationally known innovator and researcher in online learning and a leader in the learning technology standards community. His specialties are learning technology design and implementation, product and market analysis, and learning technology standards. Robby combines extensive knowledge of the e-learning industry, management experience and presentation skills with a background that includes research mathematics, outcome-based education and hands-on online instruction.

He is heavily involved in the development of e-learning interoperability standards. He is the international chairman of the IEEE Learning Technology Standards committee and is an active contributor to several draft IEEE standards. He acts as the liaison to CEN/ISSS Workshop – Learning Technology & ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36. With IMS he was the Technical Co-lead of the IMS Profiles group, acted as Technical editor for the IMS Reusable Competency Definitions group, and currently participates in several work groups. Robby is an active contributor to Advanced Distributed Learning initiative specifications and plugfests. He also founded and chaired the American Mathematics Metadata Taskforce, and organized and managed the development of mathematics taxonomies and metadata for National Digital Science Library projects.

Robby has done extensive work in the design and development of learning technology products. He defined the strategy, functionality and architecture for Saba's content management offering. He co-designed and co-managed implementation of one of the first web-based course delivery systems. He has developed several online math courses and implemented an online professional development environment for teachers.
